THE PROBLEM
All Woodworm eat timber in the larval
stage of their lifecycle (between 3 -15 yrs, depending on species). They leave behind them bore dust (frass)
and when they emerge to mate and die as a beetle, they leave behind a hole (size and shape vary according to species).
The tunnels they form within the timber weaken the timber to a level where it can be structurally dangerous.

There
are four main types of beetle - Common Furniture
Beetle (Anobium punctatum), Death
Watch Beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum), Weevil
(Pentarthum huttoni or Europhryum confine), House
Longhorn (Hylotrupes bajulus) - each preferring different
sorts of timber.
Up & Under Surveyors are fully qualified to identify which insect, whether it is
active or inactive and recommend the appropriate treatment - certain insect
attacks do not need treatment.
THE SOLUTION
Up & Under use
the lowest toxicity (safest) of chemical to kill the insect in all its stages (egg,
larva, pupa and beetle). Heartwood and hardwood are more difficult for chemicals to
penetrate than sapwood and softwood, but appropriate specifications will be used.
Heavily infested timbers will probably need replacing by our craftsmen joiners.
Our Technicians are trained to protect your property. All our technicians have been
in the remedial industry for over 12 years and have been treating timbers with insect
attack for that time.
